Montana lawmakers approve a per member expense payment of 100 per month when not in session and raise biennial salaries by about 68.5 percent during the 90 day biennial legislative session in 1977. The measure shifts costs to taxpayers and outlines new pay scales for elected officials and leaders.
Across Indiana Georgia Texas Maryland North Carolina and California angry customers protest high electric rates. Marion residents fill a junior high gym to voice grievances against Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. while Little Elm Texas residents plan a power blackout.

A coroner's jury found 19 year old Diane Gayle Reid negligent in the traffic death of 3 year old Phillip Wolfe but did not deem her criminally negligent. Deputy County Atty. Parker said no charges will be filed. Evidence cited brake failure and maintenance issues as factors in the South Main Street incident.
The Butte City Council voted to reduce the Community Organization budget from 4000 dollars a month to 1600 dollars for March and April amid debate over Model Cities funding and ongoing fiscal audits tied to campaign finance concerns in Montana. The move follows earlier calls to allow public input on the phase-out and transfers of Model City funds.
In Tel Aviv early Thursday Israeli forces stormed a hotel where Arab terrorists held dozens of foreign tourists as hostages. After heavy gunfire a military spokesman announced the operation concluded.
Rep. J. D. Lynch introduces a bill to appropriate 1 960 500 dollars to acquire land design build and furnish a new Montana Tech library in Butte. The upgrade aims to expand space for scientific and historical papers and solidify Tech as the premier specialized engineering college in the Northwest. Co sponsors include Reps.
