Snow Warnings For Montana As Storm Moves East

The Associated Press reports a Canadian storm prompts blowing and drifting snow warnings for motorists and stockmen in Montana. Warnings extend east of the divide through Monday with northerly winds 2 to 35 mph and temperatures from 10 to 35 degrees, while west of the divide showers bring colder highs.

Plane crash in Ohio kills 37 in Kenton area

A Lake Central Convair 580 with 37 aboard crashed near Kenton Ohio during stormy weather. At least 24 bodies were recovered by midnight and a temporary high school morgue opened in Marseilles. The plane, en route from Chicago to Toledo via Cincinnati and Columbus, left Columbus 7:52 p.m. with 34 passengers and 3 crew. A 10-member board team was dispatched from Washington to investigate. Weather included sleet and freezing rain, but conditions were said to be above minimums for flight operations.

Powell lawyers draft suit to seat Powell in House

Eight Powell lawyers met at his Bahamas retreat to draft a Washington filing aimed at a court order for his seating. They argue Powell meets constitutional residence age and citizenship requirements and allege the House had no right to exclude him. Powell plans to run again and may file in New York as well. Javits doubts full two year retention, Conyers predicts possible court-ordered seating.

Medicaid bill still unsigned by Montana governor

Montana Gov. Tim Babcock had not acted on Senate Bill 4, the Medicaid Title 19 measure, with 368 other bills signed from the 40th Legislature. The session ended with 519 measures failing, 368 approved, and one awaiting final action.
