Injunction Denied Over Butte At Large City Elections

Federal court allows March 22 primary and April 5 general to proceed at large in Butte. Judge McClernan dismisses Jasper Dawson's suit for permanent injunction and vacates prior restraining order. City officials argued the state court lacks jurisdiction over federal misjoinder, while Dawson's attorney claimed improper service and lack of jurisdiction in the Herweg matter. Continued on page 7.

Wreck Kills 1 Near Butte on Harding Way

Marvin Hunter Dickman 33 of 702 E Park was killed in a one car crash 14 miles east of Butte on Harding Way near Donald railroad stop. Passenger Tom Stafford 31 of 415 E Granite was listed in critical condition at Silver Bow General Hospital with severe head injuries. Ralph Wortham 32 of 2522 Pine suffered a broken collar bone and other injuries. Police and highway patrol attributed the crash to loss of control on a Donald curve. car went up an embankment and struck a rock, flipping over.

Senate approves tax plan increases in Montana

Montana Senate panels rejected House tax ideas and endorsed new bills raising state income tax schedules and a 0.7 percent rise in the corporate net income tax. The income tax would climb from 1 to 1.2 percent for the lowest bracket and from 7 to 7.8 percent for top earners, with projected revenue around $1.9 million annually. The corporate tax hike is about $1 million yearly. The plan faces House resistance and questions of legality despite attorney general approval.

Woman Dies as Car Plunges Into River Near Paradise

Mrs. Hazel Frazier a Paradise Dixon school teacher died Friday when her car plunged from U S Highway 10A Perma Curves into the Clark Fork River. Authorities believe a heart attack on Thursday led to loss of vehicle control. she was en route to her Dixon school at 8 am. Survivors include her son Paul in Missoula.

Girl, 6, Killed As Car Hits Bike

Cindy Ann Wilhelm six of Seeley Lake was fatally injured when her bicycle was struck by a car on Montana Highway 209 about 20 miles north of Seeley Lake. The driver was not identified. She died on arrival at Missoula hospital. This marked Montana 24th traffic fatality this year.

The Montana House Democrats unveil a four bill construction plan totaling 12.47 million. The package draws nearly 4.8 million from bonds repaid by 5 percent of personal and corporate income tax. HB535 funds public institutions and a diagnostic center, HB536 backs university system work, HB537 allocates to four agencies, and one bill covers House chamber refurbishments.

Major Battle Rages Near Da Nang in Viet Nam

UPI reports U S Air Force F100 jets bombed Communist positions in Quang Nam Province about 25 miles south of Da Nang as a major battle unfolds. North Viet Nam claims American planes entered its airspace but were driven back by antiaircraft fire. Military spokesman notes 33 Rangers killed 30 miles north of Saigon and an outpost overrun east of the capital.

Silver Bow County realized 33020 from a tax delinquent property auction. John Bender, Butte realtor, led with 6750 for one parcel and 1200 for another. Buyers included Joe Kissock and Peter Berger, with totals of 5985 and 4975 respectively. County officials aim for 30 to 45 day intervals for future sales.
