Daniel, campaign chairman of the Butte Chapter, American Red Cross, said Tuesday the drive for memberships is gaining momentum. Hundreds of dollars have been received as the annual drive opens Friday and runs through March. Butte’s quota is 21152 with a national goal of 950000000. Envelopes have been distributed citywide and returns are coming in.

Thomas Christopher Regan known as Chris by Butte residents, aged 64, died Tuesday at his home after an extended illness. A long-time owner of the Butte Merchant Police Service, he led the firm for 37 years with his father before becoming sole owner. Born in Little Falls, Minnesota, he moved to Butte at age four and was educated at Sacred Heart and Grant schools, then graduated from Butte Business College. He joined the family business after mining work and earned a reputation for courage, courtesy, and aid to those in distress at any hour, often patrolling after business hours and aiding the community at night.

Marvin Hess twenty of Fallon was killed when his car left a road and crashed into a creek embankment. He was alone and thrown from the vehicle. Survivors include his parents Mr and Mrs Conrad Hess of Fallon. This was the first Montana highway death this year, compared with last year’s twenty six.

Jones Arraigned On Murder Count Bond Set
George C. Jones, 45, was arraigned in District Court on a first degree murder charge for the fatal stabbing of Eula May McKinnon, 38. Eleven Hurt In Trainer Crash Near Zuni New Mexico
In Zuni area New Mexico eleven aboard an Air Force T29 trainer were injured in a crash three miles east of Nazrene Mission near Fort Morro National Monument. Kirtland AFB reported three serious and eight minor injuries. The Mather AFB California aircraft had landed at Kirtland then taxied to fly again when engine trouble forced an attempted emergency landing toward Gallup.
