Ted E. Tabor of Butte has been chosen as one of 25 national recipients of a National Defense-Act Chemistry fellowship for three years totaling 10200 dollars. He will earn a B S from Montana State University in June and then pursue a Ph.D. in organic chemistry at Kansas State University. Tabor, a 1958 Butte High School graduate, is married to Jackie Hart. He is the son of Mr and Mrs John Tabor of 3025 Phillips St.

Police suspect gangland revenge in the killings of Elmer Dowling and Mel Beckman, aides to St. Louis rackets boss Frank Wortman. Dowling and Beckman were shot in a rural area near Huntwood Road and left beside Beckman’s car. Evidence points to a professional killer. Wortman and others were questioned and released.

A 27 year old New Mexico State University graduate student Raymond Ornsbee died during a skydiving demonstration at Las Cruces Municipal Airport. He was a novice jumper making his second jump. Both parachutes reportedly failed to open and cause of failure was unknown.
Heavy snow and cold hampered divers at Little Granite Lake in Coeur d Alene Idaho as they hunted the lead diesel from the Northern Pacific Rail road North Coast Limited. The Chicago to Seattle passenger train left the tracks Friday night plunging into the ice filled lake, killing the engineer and fireman. Forty of the 126 passengers were injured.
