Montana Aviation Board Case Accepted by Supreme Court
Helena March 3 The Montana Supreme Court took jurisdiction in a dispute over salaries and expenses for the state aviation commission. More than 9000 has been held up since December as the aviation fund lacked a 1947 appropriation. The court ordered the board to approve claims or show cause by March 13. The commission warned that without funds its functions will cease to exist. State Attorney General Bottomly expected to argue that biennial appropriations are required. Meanwhile the fund grows from aviation baseline taxes and other sources, but the agency cannot operate without payment.

ARSENA March 3 The state welfare department reported checks totaling 607,816 have been mailed for March to 16,959 Montanans. Old age aid recipients received 431,116 for 10,899 people. Parents or relatives support for 5,000 dependent children got 133,753 for 1,880 cases. Blind recipients received 17,947 for 437 people and silicosis patients received 24,000.

Lewistown March 3 A coroner's jury ruled Chestina Miller Anderson 27 committed death by own action from a gunshot Tuesday night. The Lewistown waitress was found dead in her apartment with a bullet wound to the head and a small caliber rifle in her left hand. The jury cited personal safety as related to the wound. no motive was learned. Anderson was a Lewistown native.
