Citizens of Butte face a Tuesday vote on a consolidation measure amid a state examiner's warning that rising indebtedness and operating deficits threaten the city's finances. The audit dated August 3 1930 urges increased revenue or reduced expenditures to avoid reaching legal debt limits.
Helena March 3 The Montana House defeated a land reclassification measure aimed at cutting state revenue by nearly four million dollars after an hour of debate. Arthur Ryder led the proponent side while Nelstead Leavitt and Dellwo opposed citing broader tax impacts and revenue gaps.
Haverhill Massachusetts March 3. Russell Noble 17 who kept a library job and wrote a crime story while Mrs Clara Ellis lay dying is in county jail as detectives pursue a murder charge if the widow dies. Librarian Marian Davis linked Noble to mystery tales from daily library visits.
Four bandits attacked an exclusive Hollywood apartment with a sub machine gun and pistols, robbing winter visitors of about $1,500 in cash and jewelry valued around $42,500 by the owners.
In Findlay Ohio on March 3 two men were killed during an attempted wholesale grocery warehouse robbery. One victim was identified as Chester Pawlaczy of Toledo. a second man’s name was not learned. A lookout outside escaped as officers opened fire with two machine guns after the robbers entered.
Los Angeles March 3. Two inmates of the National Soldiers' Home at Sawtelle died today and officials said their deaths were hastened by Jamaica ginger poisoning. Announcement said 37 men were suffering from the extract and six were nearly paralyzed.
New Delhi reports a settlement between Viceroy Lord Irwin and Mahatma Gandhi ending a year of civil disobedience. Indians along the coast may make salt from sea water, breaking the government monopoly. Gandhi led boycotts to press constitutional self government reforms.
In Burbank on March 3 Robert T. Jones Jr. delivered the longest speech of his golf career at a luncheon in his honor. He said golf means everything to him and aims to use film work to promote the game and win converts to golf.
Judge J J Lynch in Colusa hall Meaderville defends consolidation bill highlighting benefits for suburbs. He argues abolishing duplicate offices saves about 150000 dollars to fund debt service. He asserts labor protected and critic decries misrepresentation while noting city debt and need for reform. The talk precedes another address tonight with auxiliary receptions planned at 119 North Main Street.

Jacob Ganoluky and Samuel Zuravsky both 20 were held in 500 bail in Brooklyn special sessions court after admitting they cheated on a high school examination. Federal agents raided the Olympian headquarters in Olympia Washington arresting several people including a state legislator. About 29 quarts of liquor were seized in the operation aimed at enforcing prohibition.
The Senate sustains President Hoover's veto of the Muscle Shoals bill by a 49 to 34 vote. The bill would have federalized wartime operations, with supporters failing to secure the two thirds needed to override. Senators Norris and Black led critical attacks over the veto. Continued on Page 2.
Annie Shanklin 38 and Richard Shanklin 44 were critically injured in an explosion and blaze that destroyed their four room house at 2302 Fir Street. They and their five children were in school. origin of the blast undetermined.
In Camden New Jersey 16 year old Benita Bischoff the daughter of Vivian Gordon the murdered New York vice witness took her own life after enduring relentless scrutiny at school. She was found unconscious in a gas filled kitchen and died later at West Jersey Hopathic hospital. Her stepmother discovered the scene and police were summoned.
A March 3 fire at Earl Vance airport destroyed the hangar and five planes, estimated at $60,000. A small gas stove used to warm a plane’s motor sparked the blaze, which spread as flames damaged the roofless structure. Firefighters faced water shortages and limited extinguishing gear.
Pasadena Cal March 3 Fraternities will be replaced at the California Institute of Technology next semester by new undergraduate houses built and operated like men s private clubs. Fraternities can have one members and gradually will oust existing Greek groups as new houses open

Mrs. George Otis Smith wife of the chairman of the federal power commission died tonight after a brief illness. She was 59.
At the request of the Brazilian government the United States lifted its embargo on shipments of arms to Brazil. The move was announced in Washington on March 3.
Forty six Butte Boy Scouts were officially recommended for raises in rank and merit badges at the Silver Bow council board of review conducted at the courthouse. Examinations are part of a new system preceding the court of honor on March 11 in Judge J. J. Lynch's courtroom. Two scouts, William Wilson and Walter Schott, earned life rank, while Billy Hardy Donald Hardy and Robert Hobba were noted for other advancements. four failed the exams, the largest number in months.
