Abundant credit facilities and favorable overseas news spark optimism in the securities market. Talks of further rate ease and a possible rediscount reduction accompany government efforts to revive business and encourage spending, with a balanced budget seen as key to restoring confidence.
Shanghai reports Consul General K Murai announcing ceasefire orders as Japanese military and naval authorities say their objective of protecting Japanese lives and property has been achieved and all military operations are to cease immediately.
On March 9 the New York Stock Exchange posted its best gains in over two weeks with prices up across sectors. Bonds, especially railroad issues, rose notably while price averages showed the broadest upturn since mid February. News of Britain repaying 150 million of a 200 million Morgan loan earlier than due boosted optimism for world credit.
The House Appropriations Committee reported the annual supply bill trimming more than fifty million from farm board veterans administration and Interstate Commerce Commission estimates. The total proposed appropriations reach 986 million, down 319 million from current agency spending. The other linked note recalls Lindbergh in 1927 and his son’s kidnapping, with Col. Lindbergh attending to events at his home.

Shanghai March 3. A large Japanese landing party captured the Woosung forts after a combined artillery naval and aerial assault. Elsewhere Japanese forces pressed against the retreating Chinese army in ongoing operations.

The Internal Revenue Department in Helena announced in Butte that the final date for the first half income tax payments is Tuesday March 15. A last minute rush is expected at the office in the federal building during the next two weeks.
Sixty three boys at Christian Brothers high school were listed on the February honor roll. Freshmen lead with 25 students, followed by seniors and juniors. The list names students by class and program, including classical and scientific, commercial, and other tracks, with multiple names per grade.
Butte police under Chief J J Murphy report a new extortion plot tied to the Lindbergh kidnapping. A local businessman received two letters in 30 days demanding cash or bodily harm, amid two prior extortion cases. Authorities pursue suspects as lawmakers push tougher kidnapping penalties.
