A 12 jurors found Clay L. Shaw not guilty of plotting Kennedy's assassination. The verdict rejected Jim Garrison's bid for a conviction in his controversial case. Garrison left the courtroom after his late emotional appeal.
Thousands of protesters in Paris burned U S flags and Nixon pictures near Place de la Republique while police with rifles and tear gas barred the marchers. The event drew 5 000 to 50 000 participants as banners urged free Vietnam and anti American chants filled the streets.
Detroit ABA president William T. Gossett says the association will ask the Louisiana Bar Association to consider disciplinary action against New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison. He calls the trial a charade and urges investigation of Garrison motives and the unreliability of key witness Perry Russo.
Federal agents served subpoenas to 15 men arriving in Miami en route to a meeting police described as a convention to choose successors to Vito Genovese. Investigators said the group included representatives from Mafia families in Detroit New York Chicago and Boston as they entered South Florida.
In Twin Bridges School District 7 voters approved a 242000 bond 156 to 80 for a new 7880 square foot school building with an industrial arts shop. Land will partly host a football field. The old elementary building was deemed unsound and will be replaced. Construction to begin and shop completion slated for September with remaining completion next January.

William T. Kelly resigned from the Montana Highway Commission after serving just one month. Appointed by Gov. Forrest H. Anderson to a four year term starting Feb. 1, his selection was confirmed by the Montana Senate 26 to 24. The resignation was telephoned to the governor following a senate motion.
The Vatican announced President Nixon will land by helicopter in St. Peter's Square for talks with Pope Paul VI, marking the first aerial landing by a dignitary in the famed square. Nixon travels with 13 aides. four other helicopters will join the landing.
Butte celebrates fourth annual Orchids for Enterprise with 56 firms and individuals to be honored at a 6 30 PM dinner at the Silver Bow Ballroom Finlen Hotel sponsored by the Butte Chamber of Commerce. Dr Loren G Hammer will be speaker with entertainment by Montana Tech Pep Band and Butte High singers.
The frozen body of former prizefighter James F. Spider McCallum is found in his Missoula home. He was about a week dead, beaten about the head with a blunt instrument. An anonymous call led police to the scene. three suspects were arrested, two in Idaho and one in Helena.
In Helena the Montana Senate prepared for a long battle after the House approved a bill allowing a daily opening prayer in public school classes. Senator Neil J. Lynch opposes the measure and urged adding the word silent before prayer, arguing the bill is unconstitutional. Senator Stan Stephens supports reviving the bill despite initial committee opposition.
