Fred Lay Enters 1st District Judge Race in Gallatin
Fred Lay a former Bozeman attorney and assistant Montana attorney general since 1941 filed his nominating petition for the 1th judicial district non-partisan primary set for July 20. Lay seeks the post now held by Judge H. A. Bolinger of Bozeman, in the Gallatin County district created by the 1947 legislature. Bolinger was appointed by Gov. Sam C. Ford and Lay has served in county and state posts including deputy Gallatin county auditor and first assistant attorney general since 1945.

W P Hammond Dies at Livingston Home
W P Hammond 70 prominent Montana newspaperman and former Park County News publisher died suddenly at his Livingston home. A Toronto native, he learned printing at nine, published papers in Michigan and Minnesota, moved to Livingston in 1910, and with A V Bouton started Hammond Printing and Park County News in 1917. Survived by widow, one son, a daughter, two grandchildren, two sisters, and a brother. Funeral arrangements are pending.
