President Johnson named Ramsey Clark acting attorney general since last October to be the new Attorney General. Clark, 39, is the son of Supreme Court Justice Tom C. Clark and stood beside Johnson as the nomination was announced to newsmen.

Billings Mayor to Appeal to Butte Council Over Licenses

Billings Mayor Willard E. Fraser said he will address the Butte City Council on Wednesday night seeking repeal of a recent ordinance requiring out of state or cross state licenses for wholesalers. He warned a tariff wall could trigger reciprocal measures by Billings and other Montana cities.

Soviet fishing ship sinks off Denmark. 57 dead or missing

The Soviet fishing factory ship Tukan sank in a Baltic storm near Denmark after leaking in the engine room. Danish Navy reports 22 rescued of 79 aboard, with 57 dead or missing including the captain. Vilis Lacis recovered 22 survivors and two bodies. The Tukan was en route from the Soviet Union to join a trawler fleet in the Atlanta.

Miner B R McKinney 49 killed in Mountain Con Mine slide

Bernard R McKinney 49 of 1935 Sampson died Tuesday when rock slid 300 feet down a shaft at the Mountain Con Mine. Coroner Leo L Jacobsen said he worked as a shaftman on the 4800 foot level and was carried to the 5100 foot level. Deputy coroner Frank Johns and Anaconda Co safety officials investigated.

Butteman's Longest Day in 51 Years at Rail Retirement

Wilbur Carlston, 70, of 1332 Utah, rode his last shift on a Northern Pacific Diesel engine to cap 51 years in railroading. Starting as a fireman in 1916 and becoming an engineer in 1936, he was honored by 15 to 20 railroaders including Bob Lemm, with his wife present. Born 1897 in Burlington, he left the mining camp west of Butte in a blanket.

Johnson asks 91 million for nuclear space engine

President Johnson proposed a 91 million dollar boost to accelerate development of a nuclear powered space engine. The Rover project would test the engine with first test delivery around 1971, as part of a 149.8 million dollar scientific package for next fiscal year.

Marines also staged a leap Frogging assault on the central coast, with up to 1500 men landing to trap a major North Vietnamese force.

Orchids for Enterprise dinner honors Butte firms

Butte tonight hosts the Orchids for Enterprise dinner at the Finlen Hotel with 200 reservations, expected 225 attendees. Sixty seven local firms and individuals will be honored for substantial recent investments in Butte, as D R Campbell Jr and Dan Pyfer award the orchids. Pyfer serves as master of ceremonies with Joe H. Roberts giving the welcome. The event features speaker Orvin Flare of the State Advertising Department on attracting visitors to towns.
