A loaded school bus on a mountain road struck a wrecker and an auto then plunged into a rain swollen river. Twenty three children and the driver died while sixteen others escaped through doors and windows as the bus sank to thirty feet of water. Rescue efforts ended twelve hours after the disaster.
Report on a Kentucky bus wreck near Prestonsburg where a wrecker driver Donald L. Horn describes heroic efforts by three boys who helped pull classmates to safety as the bus plunged into a river. State police list those nine aboard as missing or drowned. survivor David Wright recalls crawling out and aiding others.
Montana officials reached a quick agreement to place federal surplus foods on tables for needy residents. Governor Aronson agreed with Democratic board members to proceed. Lt. Gov. Cannon had already ordered the food in his absence. Officials cited about 20,000 unemployed Montanans and a rise to 19,983 in jobless benefits as the latest state figures.
Melvin Jorgen, 53, a North Dakota fisheries worker, died in Miles City after a one vehicle crash near Terry on Highway 2. Four others survived, and the incident raised Montana traffic fatalities for the year to 28. Jorgen suffered a collapsed lung and pneumonia and had a weakened heart. The crash was investigated by Highway Patrolman Warren Meade.
Treasure State Industries, a Montana promotion firm, received its charter with 15 million dollars authorized capitalization and Montana office in Butte. Eleven directors and twelve associate directors named from Butte Helena Missoula Great Falls Billings Whitefish and other cities. The company plans to promote industrial growth and also organized Treasure State Life Insurance Co with charter dated June 24 1957.

Butte resident Harry H. Hartz resigns as mayor of Wolf Point effective March 11 after eight months commuting 1000 miles monthly to attend Roosevelt County council meetings. Hartz, 2nd term mayor, owned Miner Apartments in Butte and previously worked bakery in Wolf Point. He is a Pioneer native with past work as an automobile machinist in Butte.

A bloc of 30 Republican House members led by Rep. Miller of Nebraska formally urged Secretary Benson to resign to President Eisenhower. The group cites liabilities of Benson's farm policies ahead of the November elections and carried the request to the White House last Thursday.
Mrs. Morris M. Mueller 38, of Butte and Los Angeles, died Friday in North Hollywood after a long illness. Born in Butte she was active in Montana and California charities, Braille transcription work, and student life at MSU. Survived by husband and two children, with relatives listed. funeral arrangements pending.
Roy Roseberry, 68, of Laurel Montana, and his wife Adeline were struck by a car on U S Highway 99 in Indio California. Adeline Roseberry died instantly while Roy died later at Casitas Hospital. Ralph Green, 42, of Altadena California, the driver, was arraigned on manslaughter charges and released on bail with a preliminary hearing set for March 3.
