Guthrie Freight Crash Kills Six in Dixieland Collision
A Louisville and Nashville freight train rammed the Dixie land passenger train near Guthrie Kentucky, killing six and injuring 21. The wreck derailed five cars, toppled the dining car, and damaged a lounge, baggage car, and three sleepers. Engineer J T Raspberry died. fireman J T Smith and brakeman J C Boone survived. The crash halted ambulances as crowds gathered.

Butte West Highway Set to Open Monday to Traffic
The $2,000,000 main west Montana highway near Butte will be completed and opened to traffic Monday from Montana at Iron street to just north of Rocker, a 3 762 mile stretch. District engineer Lewis Chittim, who on July 15 becomes head of District No 2, says bituminous surfacing will wrap up in time for Monday opening, with cleanup and optional final plant mix surfacing to follow later. No formal ceremony planned.
