Vigilante Days Rodeo opened with close to a full house at the Civic Center. Jim Shoulders showcased world class prowess while Frank Dunn of Butte suffered a severe head injury after a bareback riding accident. Riders from multiple states posted fast times in calf roping and saddle bronc events as the three day event began.

Visitors from the Magicland area flocked to Butte for Vigilante Days Rodeo and Fourth of July events. Merchants offered deep discounts across top-quality merchandise as Krazy Daze shopping continued Friday. HELENA The Montana Highway Commission approves a five district reorganization and salary raises for about 1200 employees to take effect around July 15. Clarence W Vern Harkness, 39, was held in the county jail after snatching two money bags from the Safeway Store at 304 FE Park St. about 8:15 am. U S Steel Corp boosts steel prices by six dollars a ton effective July 1, aimed at offsetting higher labor costs from a wage increase. The higher price adds roughly ten dollars to an automobile and 75 cents to a kitchen stove, widening the national steel bill by about 700 million annually.

A Senate Interior Subcommittee approved a bill to modify the 160 acre limit of the reclamation act in Beaverhead Valley Montana. The measure by Senators Murray and Mansfield would allow valley landowners to receive water for irrigation exceeding 160 acres. Dillon resident DeMar Taylor testified broad local support. Floyd E. Dominy and E W Rising also backed the bill.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee approved 18 8 a Bow resolution seeking to end foreign trials of U S GIs. It would require the President to revise or denounce status of forces agreements allowing foreign prosecutions. Speaker Eisenhower backs the agreements. the Girard case prompted this move.
