Mine-Mill Leaders Reject 80 Cent Per Day Increase
The International Union of Mine Mill and Smelter Workers failed to notify The Anaconda Company by 3 30 p.m. Butte daylight saving time on June 27th of acceptance or rejection of the 10 cent per hour wage offer 80 cents per day. The company plans meetings to arrange maintenance for protection of properties under the contract. In Denver the National Wage Policy Committee polled members on a nationwide strike for July 1 if settlements are not reached by midnight June 30 when Mine Mill contracts with the big four non ferrous producers expire. The big four are Kennecott Copper American Smelting and Refining Phelps Dodge and The Anaconda Company.
