Hunger march planned by Montana low income groups
About 150 low income representatives from across the state plan a hunger march Monday in Helena. Led by LIGHT and others, the delegation will form at St Peter Church at 10 am and march to the Agriculture Department to press food stamp and hunger relief demands. They aim to meet Gov. Forrest H. Anderson and state officials and form a statewide low income organization.

The $709 360 contract for repairs at the Federal Building on Main and Copper Streets was awarded to Taylor McDonnell Construction Co of Butte. The GSA oversees the project which includes converting basement areas and second floor to offices, upgrading ventilation on upper floors, installing an automatic passenger elevator and improving lighting. Price Increase Heads For Butte Bar Scene
Butte and other Montana communities will see higher drink prices starting July 1 as a mix of wage hikes and tax changes take effect. The Silver Bow County Tavern Association cites a two year contract raising bartender pay by one dollar per day for neighborhood venues and another one dollar per shift for cabaret bars. The Montana beer tax rise from 1.50 to 3.00 per barrel raises wholesale prices by 15 cents a case for cans and bottles and 75 cents per half barrel of draft. Brewery workers' negotiations also factor into the higher costs.

Deer Lodge rancher Don Tavenner dies from helicopter crash injuries
Deer Lodge rancher and civic leader Don Tavenner died in a Rochester Minnesota hospital from injuries suffered in a June 4 helicopter crash on his Deer Lodge area ranch. He was 57. Frank Shaw of Deer Lodge, hospitalized in Rochester in good condition, was with him when the crash occurred. Memorials may be made to the Powell County Museum and Arts Foundation.

Californians Die In Small Plane Crash Near Great Falls
Four California residents died when their light plane crashed in Smith River Canyon near Ulm while en route from Canada to California via Great Falls. The pilot Roger Jacquay and three passengers Terry Jacquay 22 John Lobb and Chuck Bleick all of Glendora were killed. FAA and NTSB investigators prepared to survey the wreckage as authorities moved the bodies from the canyon to a farm house then to Great Falls.

Trustees save aid Butte school roof repair funds
The School District 1 board used 25 000 unspent funds plus 25 000 budgeted for a total 50 000 to cover a roof repair at East Junior High and awarded a low bid of 48 600. Chairman John Whelan said the funds were a savings from hiring teachers with degrees and experience. He argued delaying repairs could raise replacement costs twenty to thirty fold and that the money was available as an emergency.
