Afro-Asian Summit Postponed in Algiers

The Afro-Asian Summit Conference was postponed to November 5 in Algiers after a rushed eight day period following the Ben Bella overthrow. Ethiopian and Pakistani officials backed postponement amid security concerns after a plastic bomb shattered the Palais des Nations bar injuring several.

Viet Cong Use Chinese Tactics During Attack

More than 200 Communist guerrillas launched two human wave assaults near Saigon signaling monsoon offensive resumption. Casualties rose from Friday's floating restaurant bombing to 122 total with 42 dead and 12 American dead amid a string of incidents raising U S fatalities. Air attacks targeted North Vietnam as Marines, advisers and Australian forces faced heavy fighting near Duc Hoa Tau Marong and other districts. The Viet Cong's tactics drew comparisons to Chinese methods in a broad campaign ahead of a postponed Afro Asian summit in Algiers.

Rebels Fire on U S Positions in Santo Domingo Cease Fire Violations

UPI reports Saturday that Dominican rebel forces violated the Santo Domingo cease fire by firing on American emplacements in the security corridor. No casualties were reported in the last 24 hours as Paraguayan troops joined the Inter-American peace keeping force in Santo Domingo. An Inter-American Command team led by Jose A. Mora visited San Isidro airbase while investigators moved to San Francisco de Macoris where up to eight people were killed in a pre-dawn clash.

Tragic Tractor Crash Claims Ranchhand Near Alder

A tractor rollover on a wet slope near Alder killed 19 year old Joe Beauchamp of Glasgow and left 23 year old Thomas Gardner of Minnesota with a broken collarbone. Both men worked at the Gilbert Ranch in the Upper Ruby Valley. Beauchamp’s body was sent to a Virginia City funeral home while Gardner was hospitalized in Sheridan.

Actor Steve Cochran Dies

GUATEMALA CITY AP Police towed a boat with the body of Hollywood star Steve Cochran into Port Champerico. He had been dead about 10 days and an autopsy will be performed. Three women aboard the boat were held in preventive detention. Cochran's body was flown to Guatemala City by Air Force plane. The boat had drifted since his death before being towed in. Cochran, 48, was a leading man and Mae West discovery who appeared with her in Diamond Lil and Catherine Was Great.

Montana Probation Parole Group Defends Record in Dispute

The Montana Probation Parole and Correctional Association defended its record after clashing with the Montana Board of Pardons. A. J. Lodell, Anaconda, new president, said the group opposes efforts to undermine the program and supports the Board’s five year operation. The statement notes a biennial report showing Montana caseload success above the national average and broad judiciary acceptance.

Helena Girl Crowned Miss Montana Diane Feller

Diane Feller of Helena was crowned Miss Montana and will compete in Miss America in Atlantic City New Jersey. She was crowned by 1964 winner Merilee Miller of Adamsburg with first runnerup Carol Boetcher of Great Falls and Miss Montana State University. Nicole Eveland was second runnerup and other finalists included Sandra Erickson and Mary Van Hyning. Feller entered as Miss Billings and is a Rocky Mountain College student. her parents are Mr and Mrs Al Feller.
