Colorado Declares Emergency as 4000 Square Miles Beset by Grasshoppers

The Herald and Examiner reports Robert Irwin, sought nationwide for New York Easter Sunday murders, surrendered at the newspaper office. Police say no confirmation of capture yet. Irwin allegedly confessed to slaying Veronica Gedeon, her mother, and Frank Byrnes, with intent to kill Veronica’s sister Ethel, whom he claimed to love but who married another man. He described a plan to kill Ethel, insisting the other deaths were accidental. He said he waited at the Gedeon apartment for Ethel. Veronica’s mother died first after a struggle.
