Butte Teenager Dies in Accidental Gun Wound in Basin Mountains
Jeffrey Dyer, 18, of 504 W. Galena, died Monday from an accidental self inflicted gunshot while exploring near Basin in the Torpey Gulch area. Sheriff Paradis said no inquest is planned. Dyer and Dave Kipp, 17, were walking a trail when the gun fired. Dyer had used a 30.06 rifle as a walking stick. Funeral services are pending. Dyer, born March 18, 1956, moved to Butte 12 years ago and attended local schools. survivors include his mother Clarinett Cordova and father Russell Dyer Jr.

Fire crews battle multiple blazes near Basin Creek and Basin Basin
National Forest dispatcher Dale Bothes says six men fought a one tenth acre fire southwest of Basin Creek Reservoir, with three crews on a blaze near the Janney substation. A private land fire two miles south of Gregson involved state crews and heavy equipment. An aerial spotter estimated 10 to 15 acres as winds fanned the flames.
