Rail stock orders surge as rails replace old equipment
Railroads rapidly replace rolling stock with new locomotives and freight cars. Through May 25 1929 orders reached 336 locomotives up from 132 in the same period 1928 an over 150 percent rise. Freight car orders totaled 52542 versus 20050 last year an increase of over 162 percent. Passenger revenues remain a strain though quarterly results show a 19.4 percent gain for class one railroads vs 1928.

Three persons were burned to death when a plane crashed at Lancet airport in Harrison near Cincinnati. Parachutist Joe Hyde had just completed a jump and planned another from a higher height.
