Adria Jawort, a Northern Cheyenne transgender woman, spoke to about 100 adults in Butte about two spirit people while recounting historical oppression. Her lively presentation included humor and self reflection, following prior cancellation over fears of drag content under new state law.

Habitat for Humanity launches 3M condo project in Butte

Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Montana begins a $3 million condominium project in Butte to mark 30 years of service. On 1.7 acres in the 300 block of West Iron Street the plan includes three duplexes and six single family homes for owner-occupied rentals to house up to 55 people. Barbara Miller, executive director, credited staff and partners for 140 plus homes built and noted the group’s rank in the nation among Habitat affiliates. The Roxanne Iron Way Condominium project will honor Roxanne Witt and meet indoor air quality standards set by the American Lung Association.

Habitat breaks ground on a $3 million condo development in Butte in partnership with the Mutual Self Help program. The project aims to provide affordable homes for working families earning under 80 percent of the area median income and continues Habitat's national affordable housing partnership.

Crites 2011 murder case ends in mistrial

A mistrial was declared in the Leon Ford case over the 2011 killing of John Michael Crites. Defense attorney Palmer Hoovestal said the state lacked evidence to convict. A retrial date was tentatively set for Jan 8, 2024, with double jeopardy concerns raised. Special prosecutor Leo Gallagher anticipated new evidence from the trial. Butte man testifies self defense in attempted homicide trial

Martin Bradley Coleman testified on day 3 of his trial that he shot Anthony Worth three times at a Butte house in June 2022 to defend himself as Worth punched and choked him. Coleman said he grabbed his 9mm after losing consciousness and fired while Worth attacked him from behind. Prosecutors suggested a romantic link between Coleman and Sheena Falcon, Worth’s on again off again partner. Prosecutors asked why Coleman shot Worth in the back of the head, which Coleman denied, saying the shots were fired in self defense. Police later found four bullets still in the gun hours after.
