General Wavell, British Middle East commander, urged the governor of Jibuti to join the Free French or openly break from pro Axis Syria. If refused, he would evacuate women and children from Jibuti and provide milk and essential foods until evacuation. Jibuti is the main port of French Somaliland and the Ethiopia rail terminus.
Fort Lewis Washington dispatch reports new draftees impressed by Army care and disciplined attitude. Recruits note good meals and orderly conduct, avoid political talk, and express relief at departure from home amid a hopeful, quiet start to service.
New York June 22. Here is the text of Hitlers proclamation as reported by CBS. He discusses sending a minister to Moscow to work against encirclement of Britain and peace offers to the Allies. He denies plans to occupy Lithuania and cites Cripps mission to Moscow. He claims Russia lied about protecting the Baltic states and outlines Soviet questions about Romania Finland Bulgaria and Dardanelles. Moscow then sought a friendship accord to rile Serbs against Germany.

NBC reports London radio release from Moscow stating Russia and Great Britain are in full accord on the international situation at this moment.

German Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop says Germany informed the Soviet ambassador this morning that military measures of defense have been taken due to threats on German frontiers by Russian armies. He cites 1939 attempts at understanding with the Soviet Union and notes treaties not to attack or interfere, with Russia declaring certain territories as its sphere. He claims Germany has fulfilled these treaties and, by destroying Poland, aided the Soviet Union.
Soviet frontier reports to Havas say women and relatives of many foreign diplomats and consuls have left Russia. The Swiss telegraph agency relayed the report Sunday from Bern.
Yellowstone Park reports 20,482 fish caught between May 30 and mid June, up from 14,213 in the same period last year. Superintendent E. B. Rogers released the figures indicating strong fishing activity in park waters.
The Rocky Mountain Sports men plan the annual picnic at Echo Lake three weeks from July 13 drawing 7 000 to 10 000 visitors from Silver Bow Deer Lodge Powell Granite Beaverhead Jefferson and Madison counties. The highlight is the beauty queen contest at 4 p m followed by amateur boxing contests under Troy Evans Elks gym supervision.
