A high pressure steamline exploded aboard the aircraft carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt injuring seven. Navy officials indicated two crewmen might be dead while five remained critically hurt and two seriously injured. 15 Freight Cars Derailed In Libby Collision

Two Montana crop dusting pilots killed in Townsend crash
W Penn Stohr and Robert L Vallance died when a Ford Tri Motor spray plane loaded with diesel fuel and chemical to kill weeds crashed 14 miles west of Townsend after takeoff for Sagebrush Gulch spraying. The aircraft burned, witnesses reported an engine miss, and no inquiry was planned.

Believed Dead As Ships Collide Off Brittany Coast
Two oil tankers, the Stony Point and the Ioannis, collided in fog off Ushant near Brest. Eleven men were believed killed as flames spread. 50 plus crew were rescued, including 27 survivors from the Stony Point's Italian crew. The Stony Point, en route Sidon Lebanon to Antwerp, towed to safety by a Dutch tug. Ioannis crew navigated to an anchorage seven miles off Brest. Capt. Mario Capelletto and crew were rescued by the British frigate Ulster.

Copper price cut by two majors lowers market to 2914 cents
