Brennan Convicted in Butte Cocaine Case Ten-Year Penalty Sought
James Brennan 44 of Butte found guilty by a Silver Bow county jury of selling two cocaine bundles. The court recommended a 10 year penitentiary sentence and a $3000 fine. Brennan faces additional narcotics charges and a co defendant link to Sam Hood. Federal agents alleged a cocaine bundle was found in a dictionary with Hood’s name on the flyleaf. James M. Griffith, 94, Oregon settler of 1845, arrived with his fifth wife in a buckboard to attend the Oregon Pioneer association reunion. He told tales of how he fought Indians and sold scalps. about 300 to 400 pioneers born in Oregon Territory by 1849 registered for the convention.

Manio Fatally Hurt When Train Hits Man
James J. Murphy aged 55 of 338 East Broadway was fatally injured yesterday afternoon when struck by a Northern passenger train between Havre and Butte. He died two hours later at St James hospital from a fractured skull after being taken from the scene by A. C. M. ambulance. Murphy had lived in Butte about 20 years and worked at various mines. He was born in Canada and survived by three brothers in Massachusetts and Canada.

Pythian Knights Honor Fallen Members With Memorial Service

Three Are Killed as Bridge Span Falls Near Frederick
Three road construction workers died and seven were injured when a 100 foot span of a Monocacy River bridge collapsed under a heavy truck. The accident scattered workers into the swollen river below with hours elapsing before fate of others could be known. Identified dead were D. C. Victim Found Dead In Lake Avoca After Foul Play Suspected
The unidentified man was found floating head up in Lake Avoca near Lakeshore Country Club at 7 15. Officers believe the body was placed in the water after a killing as no water in the lungs suggests asphyxiation.
