Close Vote Requires Runoff In Anaconda Union Election
Mine Mill and United Steel Workers finished in a near tie in the Anaconda bargaining election triggering a runoff in about two weeks. Dan Boyd of the NLRB reported 416 votes for Mine Mill, 415 for Steel, and 206 for Northwest Metals among 1 048 ballots cast from 1 381 eligible voters. The vote to determine the smeltermen's bargaining agent opened at seven sites Wednesday and closed Thursday afternoon.

Rainstorm Floods Miles City and Eastern Montana
An eastbound storm dumped record rainfall on eastern Montana with Miles City accumulating 2.78 inches in 24 hours, most in 10 hours, flooding basements and the Main Street underpass.
