Americans Break Through Cherbourg Peninsula Advance

Allies Drive on Base at Mogaung

Chinese and American troops pressed through monsoon rain to within one mile north of Mogaung, encircling the city and advancing toward the Japanese stronghold of Myitkyina. Tito and Subasic Reach Accord to Liberate Yugoslavia

In Bari Italy on June 18 Marshal Tito and the Royal Yugoslav government in exile announced an accord to help Yugoslavs liberate their country quickly. The talks, held June 14 to 17, formed a new cabinet under the royal government in exile and were kept secret at the site. Subasic said he would consult all resistance movements including Mihailovic after London talks.

Patriotic Units Open Four Day Montana Convention

A four day Montana joint encampment of the United Spanish War Veterans and allied groups opened with memorial services in Legion hall. About 150 delegates and visitors filled the venue as units meet in separate halls for business sessions at the Leggat hotel. Garfield Donaldson presided, with invocations, memorial address, benediction and music provided by local clergy and chorus.

Butte Sailor Wounded in Action During Invasion of France

Gunner's Mate Bernard W. Byrnes of Butte has been wounded in action. A veteran of North Africa and Sicily campaigns, Byrnes was last heard from in England and is believed to be injured in the France invasion. Navy confirms no details yet and will supply more information soon.
