With 335 candidates filed for county offices including 160 for precinct committee men the primary filing deadline closed at 5 o clock Saturday producing the longest ballot on record for this county election season.
President Hoover said he will withdraw from active re election campaigning aside from major speeches. He will shift campaign duties to Everett Sanders and the Republican national committee, with headquarters moved to Chicago and New York. Sanders will lead the drive and the party organization. The note appears in a brief statement to reporters as Hoover focuses on official duties.
Washington dispatches say the Democratic nominating race in Chicago is heating up with Governor Roosevelt favored by supporters lining up delegates. Meanwhile the wet-dry issue and a possible party shift influence expectations for the convention start on June 27.
Nicholas Murray Butler plans a drive to repudiate the Chicago Republican plank in New England and Mid Atlantic state conventions. Republicans and Democrats also nominate a governor with Floyd B. Olson unopposed in his party and Earle Brown facing Franklin F. Ellsworth in Minneapolis.
In Carmel California on June 18 Ray Taylor a San Jose architect was cited for appearing nude at the beach claiming he wore a coat of tan. Police Judge Richard Hoagland ordered him to leave town or face jail after he refused to disrobe to prove the tan. Taylor departed the town.

James A. Farley campaign manager for Gov. Franklin D. Roosevelt left New York by train for Chicago and the Democratic national convention. He predicted Roosevelt would be nominated on the first ballot and roll up the largest two party majority in history.
Swedish guests led by national Order of Vasa officers and about 200 delegates were welcomed in Butte with breakfast, mine tours, and aScandia hall program. Mayor Archie McTaggart and Mrs McTaggart greeted the party as Chicago grand master O S Ohlander and J H Ost spoke.
