Montana Floods Eased by Cool Weather and Reduced Runoff
The Associated Press reports continued cool, dry conditions in Montana eased flooding from recent rains. Missouri River drainage showed no serious flood threat while Willow Creek near Shelby stood 44 inches deep for a half mile. Shelby faced renewed floods on the north side with 5 feet of water in streets and many evacuated as Kings Hill area saw over two inches of rain in two hours. Residence damage persisted in Conrad Chinook and the Milk River north of Chinook saw evacuations as the river rose. Traffic closure on U S Highway 2 near Shelby due to floodwaters was briefly reversed with rescues reported.

Two Montana highway crashes killed Forsyth boy Tom Schenk and Spokane resident Patricia York. Schenk, 6, darted into Interstate 90 near Forsyth, struck by a Vancouver Washington driver.
