The Montana Department of the Disabled American Veterans denounces a Japanese court for trying Army Specialist 3 C William Girard over the slaying of Naka Sakai. The 36th annual convention adopted a resolution opposing foreign power jurisdiction over U S servicemen in offenses against foreign law.
A mushroom shaped tornado and fierce hail tore through Cicognola Rebecca and Bressana in the Passo Scuro region near Milan. At least five people died and more than 80 were injured with Europewide storms killing over 23 in the past day. Fire brigades and police combed wreckage as villagers filled a church for mass moments before the cyclone hit.
East region sees rain in the southeast and extreme east fading by Monday with partly cloudy skies and a high of 60 to 70. Monday night lows 40 to 50 include little temperature change, then Tuesday brings mostly fair and warmer conditions with scattered afternoon thunder showers and a high near 70 to 80. Mr and Mrs Paul Cooper of Lewistown faced a near death on US 91 four miles south of the Hardie Bridge when a giant boulder rolled onto the road and slid their car toward the Missouri River The vehicle struck a second embedded rock that halted the fall They walked away unharmed.
William N. Geagan, Butte attorney and son of P. E. Geagan, becomes grand knight of Butte Council No. 668 Knights of Columbus succeeding Thomas Hughes. New officers include Foy as deputy grand knight Sullivan as chancellor Paull as warden and others. The Geagan family resides at 1132 Lewisohn with infant daughter Martha.
Grand Island Nebraska Capt Horton Hale 53 a Trans World Airlines pilot suffered a heart attack while piloting a TWA Constellation on a New York to San Francisco flight. The plane diverted to Grand Island where Hale was pronounced dead. Hale lived in New Hyde Park New York. Captain L A Girard of New York City also piloted the flight.
Senator Magnuson proposed allowing American carriers to fly passengers and mail to Communist China as a first move toward relaxing trade barriers. The plan would involve talks with Secretary Dulles and could include American newsmen in China. current restrictions block such travel. The Commerce Committee will study U S trade policies with Asia next week.
In Newcastle England Labour leader Hugh Gaitskell denounces calls to delay all round disarmament until German reunification. He argues for German unity with free elections but says delaying disarmament risks war and misstates UN charter limits. He warns against tying disarmament to frontier changes.

Floods across the St. Louis region killed at least 18 people and left 3,500 residents displaced. Seven family members died near Beaufort, Missouri when their car was swept away by floodwaters. Unofficial rainfall peaked at 13.75 inches in Belleville Illinois as flood lakes slowly drained and highways remained blocked.

A Kalispell man Emil Julius Anderson 61 and his wife Henrietta Jo died when their car left US 2 and plunged into the Fisher River near Libby. Anderson was killed instantly. Mrs Anderson died about ten minutes after arrival at Libby hospital. Also in Hardin Rafael Marquez Salazar 24 died after a truck car collision north of Hardin. Richard Salyer 16 was hospitalized with shock and cuts. The incident raises Montana 1957 traffic fatalities to 83.

Tornadoes strike northwestern Iowa as the Republican River overflows near Red Cloud and evacuation orders rise in Superior Nebraska. One death is reported as a vehicle collides with a washed out bridge amid rising floodwaters.
Police say a $2,500 blaze started when hot soup boiled over on a gas stove at John Marble's home in West Frankfort Illinois. Fire chief Fred Harkins notes the flare up caused the fire as witnesses reported the incident.
