Treasury reports 15 days of June income tax receipts at 276.95 million, over 18 percent higher than a year ago. For the current fiscal year totals reach 1,393,518,692 with June expectations of about 375,000,000. full year projected around 1.493 billion. Roosevelt aimed for 1.434 billion in income tax revenue.
Fifty one nations that voted sanctions last October over Ethiopia aggression approach a consensus to drop the economic penalties at the June 30 Geneva league assembly. France resists amid strong pro sanction elements while Britain signals potential initiative as Edouard Coulier pushes abolition in the chamber.

Seven fledgling Republican leaders were elevated to the national executive committee to direct the party campaign alongside the old guard. Governor Alf Landon and Frank Knox oversaw revamping, with John D. M. Hamilton becoming campaign manager. The group claimed to outline the coming campaign while keeping plans secret. The youngest member was Robert Burroughs of New Hampshire, 38. Other new appointees include Joseph Martin Jr and J Will Taylor.
Local sources say Father Coughlin plans to back Representative William Lemke of North Dakota as the third party presidential candidate. Knutson believes the report plausible while Frazier doubts a third party can gain traction this year.
In Livingston on June 16, the body of John Nordby, 47, a forest service employee, was recovered after being buried by snow in Boulder country since January 5. Nordby and forest ranger Roy Engle died during an avalanche while searching for Jack Tracy, a rodeo performer believed lost but later found safe.
In Richmond Pennsylvania guards stop a prison break when C H Smith fires a machine gun into a truck carrying eight convicts. Guard Bass, 55, is killed and Guard Ream, 49, is wounded. a convict is shot and five convicts are critically wounded including ringleader D P Coleman.
About 85,500 dollars in cash bonus money will circulate in Butte with 30,950 more for other state communities. Postal authorities prepared 116,500 dollars in Treasury checks to pay World War I veterans. By 8 pm roughly 250 Silver Bow and Butte veterans surrendered bonds, with nearly 100 from other towns also sending bonds. The first check is to go to Claud Leon Meredith at Fort Harrison.
June 16 Helena report notes the first Montana veteran to convert World War I bonus bonds into cash is Claud e L Meredith of Helena chief attorney for the veterans administration at Fort Harrison. He already arranged to purchase a home in Helena ten days earlier as part of the down payment.
Delivery of the bonds began yesterday morning with every mail carrier in the local system in use. The notice indicates continuation on Page 2 Column 5.
Indiana Democrats nominate M Clifford Townsend of Marion for governor in November with Governor McNutt's backing. Townsend, 51, a former schoolteacher active in farm groups, will face Republican Raymond S Springer, 54, from Connersville who also ran four years ago. A dispute over Lake County delegation votes briefly disrupted the convention as J Clynn Ellison sought to switch support to E Kirk McKinney.
The Senate voted to extend through 1937 the sugar import quotas under the Jones-Costigan act. The measure, revised by the agriculture committee, drops proposed payments and admin funds and simply prolongs the existing quotas. Senator O Mahoney calls the move a stopgap to protect the quota system during Congress recess.
Montana Association of County Commissioners wraps up its annual convention in Great Falls with officer elections and committee report actions. A banquet for attendees featured Edward F. Flynn of the Great Northern legal staff as toastmaster.
