Scranton Attacks Goldwater at Connecticut GOP Rally

Pennsylvania Governor William W. Scranton addressed Connecticut delegates amid cheers and boos as he promoted 16 GOP presidential delegates. Great Falls Man Becomes Bar Association President

John H. Weaver of Great Falls was elected president of the Montana Bar Association at the 76th annual convention held at the Finlen Hotel. He succeeds William H. Coldiron of Butte. a president-elect Cale Crowley of Billings was named. The convention opened Thursday with a banquet Saturday and a dance following. Judicial district vice presidents were elected across multiple towns including Helena Missoula Dillon and Billings.

Engles Seeks Re-Election as State Republican Chairman

In Helena AP report Mel Engles announced he will seek re election as Montana state Republican chairman at the upcoming party convention. Wayne Montgomery the GOP candidate for Congress from Montana's western district left the state on a self funded trip to southeast Asia. Montgomery criticized the party leadership before leaving claiming bossism and saying his primary win would back his claim. Gov Tim Babcock will headline events with Rep James Battin and Alex Blewett also speaking.

Montana flood devastates Blackfeet. many still missing

A week of heavy rains and melting snow triggered a 20 foot wall of water that swept Birch Creek and four irrigation dams, killing and displacing numerous Blackfeet residents. Ten bodies identified, 23 missing, five more presumed missing as volunteers, helicopters, and refugees cope with widespread destruction across Browning and Birch Creek areas.

County chairman W C A Peacock says the gathering will elect a county jury and other officers, select a state committeeman and woman, and choose delegates and alternates to the State convention in Helena on Thursday June 18.
