President Kennedy and former President Eisenhower met for 1 hour 10 minutes with Vice President Johnson to discuss Kennedy’s civil rights program and problems ahead of next week’s congressional push. The session followed Alabama integration events and Medgar Evers' killing, which Kennedy condemned as barbarity. They described desegregation measures targeting public spaces and expanded federal authority as key goals.
Gov. George C. Wallace transferred control of the integrated University of Alabama to President Kennedy and ordered state forces out. About 2,000 federalized National Guardsmen moved in while Army troops reinforced security. Parades and a Flag Day children’s procession are planned. Gentry flew from Pasadena to Butte and was greeted by Anaconda Post Commander Ray Fleming.

State and local Veterans of Foreign Wars officials greeted Byron B. Gentry at Butte airport on Wednesday as he traveled to the state VFW convention in Anaconda. Anaconda figures Ray Fleming Joe Calnan and Leo Pow were among the attendees with the national commander.

East of Divide, expect fair to slightly warmer temperatures with highs near 75 to 90 and few changes through Friday. West of Divide, Thursday and Thursday night be fair with increasing cloudiness and a chance of showers Friday afternoon. temperatures in the upper 70s to upper 80s and lows around 35 to 60 in lower valleys.
