Butte Voters Endorse Major School Levy and Site Purchases
In unofficial returns from Friday’s election, Butte School District 1 voters approved a 1.5 million operation and maintenance levy for 1971-72, with about 3,369 to 2,739 positive votes in the elementary section and 3,244 to 2,788 for the high school section. The measure seeks 28.5 mills. Two of three property purchase requests also appeared to pass, including 50,000 for site purchases and 12,500 and 8,500 for Broadway property acquisitions, with counts ranging 2,400 to 2,980 yes votes. Official canvass set for Monday at 8 p.m. in the School Administration Building. In May 1 voting, the district rejected all requests totaling 1.8 million. The levy will raise 1.6 million with 29.9 mills, costing the average taxpayer about 12.24 dollars more for the next year.
