John L. Lewis Dies at 89 Former UMW Leader
John L. Lewis, longtime president emeritus of the United Mine Workers, died at 89 in a Washington hospital. A UMW aide said details would be released the next day. Young girl mauled by Yellowstone grizzly survives
Five year old Daphne Jax was attacked by a 400 pound grizzly at Trailer Village in Yellowstone Park and flown to a park hospital in good condition with chest punctures and lacerations. A chest surgeon was dispatched from Scott AFB. Park rangers killed the bear about 30 minutes after the incident and the bear remains were sent to Montana State University for analysis.
