Le Mans disaster claims seventy lives in race crash

Ten Airmen Die In Bomber Crash At Stuttgart
A four engine U S Air Force B 29 from Molesworth England crashed into a rocky Swabian Alps hillside near Owen Stuttgart during dense fog and rain. Police reported ten crew members killed with bodies removed and wreckage strewn along the slope. The bomber was on an instrument training flight, intending to return to Molesworth after visiting Stuttgart and Munich. Names of the victims were withheld.

Missoulian Killed in Auto Accident
Lorenz Graf a 41 year old Missoula baker was killed when a tire blew out on the car he drove about 20 miles southwest of Missoula Saturday afternoon. The car skidded and rolled 312 feet then rolled the last 105 feet and stopped crosswise in the road. Graf was thrown from the vehicle while four others escaped with minor injuries. He had recently arrived from Germany. Funeral services will be in Bozeman. The death raises Montana 1955 traffic fatalities to 84, up from 71 last year. Surviving relatives include his mother and a brother in Germany and several aunts and uncles in the United States.

Mayor Seeks Higher Revenue For Butte Budget
Mayor Tim J. Sullivan released a pre budget letter urging aldermen to consider a garbage ordinance to keep Street and Alley funds for street work. He compared Butte’s budget with Billings and Great Falls, urged focus on streets airports health sanitation and parks, and noted few special improvement districts have been created. The letter explains only 30.5 percent of city taxes fund city operations, with 69.5 percent going to county state and school districts.
