McGovern seeks Montana vote in Democratic contest

A Montana McGovern supporter predicted the state’s delegates will commit to McGovern at the Democratic National Convention, while a labor-backed push favors an uncommitted delegation. State Rep. Thomas E. Towe said McGovern could win about 80 percent of Montana’s delegates, with potential control of several counties including Cascade, Lewis and Clark, Silver Bow, and Missoula. An uncommitted faction led by State Sen. W. A. Groff contends for separate organization, though Groff declined comment.

In Miami Florida 81 year old Elisha Campbell invited relatives to discuss medical expenses for his wife Emma Campbell. He then shot himself and his wife with a .32 caliber pistol, killing Emma and taking his own life.

Montana delegate warns ballots may endanger constitution vote

Helena AP Montana delegate Charles H. Mahoney warned that blank voided and partially completed ballots could alter the official totals for the new constitution. Unofficial returns show 116,492 for and 113,510 against with canvass to finalize electors. Mahoney noted many skipped the constitution question while voting other issues and predicted a very tight majority.

Butte girl wins top post at Girls State in Helena

A Billings girl, Ann Regan, was elected governor at the week-long Girls State in Helena. She also became mayor of a mythical city, as districts split into Gold and Blue parties. Other officers include lieutenant governor Cathy Weis and secretary of state Veronica Brown, both from Butte and Great Falls respectively, with several other winners named in the slate.
