State marks the first anniversary of Montana’s worst floods. The disaster began June 8, 1964 with Swift Dam and Lower Two Medicine Dam failures near Glacier National Park. Blackfeet victims numbered in the dozens as searchers recovered 24 bodies and seven missing. A memorial service was held in Browning with a monument dedicated to fallen tribesmen. The floods emerged from torrential rains over a heavy snowpack, affecting the Flathead Valley and Kalispell with widespread destruction.

General Contract Awarded For Million Dollar Motel
The R. K. & A. Jones Co. of St Louis won the general contract for a new Holiday Inn Motel at 2910 Harrison in Springfield Missouri. Project director Leonard W. Chinn expects a 1.1 million dollar cost with opening planned March 1, 1956. The Inn will have 85 units with restaurant, pool, lounge, banquet facilities, interior corridors, air conditioning, and 181 parking spaces.
