Car plunges into Rock Creek. three dead and one missing

In Granite County a car swerved into Rock Creek and sank. Olaf Hilmo 48 and his two sons Scott 7 and Steve 5 were among the dead, another child is missing presumed drowned, a survivor aided by the others before letting go to save himself. Rescue teams from sheriff, National Guard and Missoula volunteers faced high water and debris.

Cattle price drop cited as potential tax loss to Montana

State Sen. G. W. Deschamps and Rep. Francis Bradaneuve warned that cattle prices fell from 72 to 75 cents a pound last fall to about 38 cents this year. They say ranchers paid taxes on high incomes last year and may owe little or nothing this year as prices slump. Budget officials note broader tax data, with 1972 taxes totaling 11.8 million on taxable income over 159 million, and 1973 estimates at 16 million pending.

Judge's error frees man after 42 years in prison

Earl Haymon, 68, to be paroled June 26 from Fishkill Correctional Facility after a 42 year ordeal caused by a life sentence for second degree murder. A 1932 Buffalo arrest tied him to a fatal stabbing. misapplied law kept him locked up until a March resentencing reduced the term to 20 years.

Butte Faces Recount Over $7.9 Million High School Bond

The Butte school bond election failed by 33 votes, 6 646 for and 6 679 against, triggering a county and school board recount under a one quarter per cent margin. Arkansas twister kills four in Forrest City

A deadly tornado struck Forrest City Arkansas injuring more than 100 and destroying 150 to 250 homes. Four people were killed including Inez Spears Lois Jean Smith Harvey Hampton Sr and Johnny Davis.
