Washington June 6 A second day of management union talks aimed at ending the nationwide steel strike ended with no reported progress. Six negotiators—three from management and three from the CIO Steelworkers—planned to resume Saturday at 10 a m. amid rumors the industry offered a wage and fringe benefits increase of 20 cents an hour.

Note links McGrath Boyle to war contracts case deemed fictitious
Former assistant U. S. attorney George F. Petzer told House investigators that a note he wrote linking ex Attorney General J. Howard McGrath and ex DNC head William M. Boyle to a Detroit firm’s overcharges was fictitious. Petzer said he wrote it after drinking at a party and arriving at 4 a.m. The note was left in a Washington hotel room for Walter Sprague, who was examining recovery of 25 000 dollars from Advance Plating. Sprague testified McGrath and Boyle allegedly conferred with Bernard M. Baur in a hotel suite, but Baur denied the meeting and Justice Department actions were dropped.

Police Chief’s joy ends in roadside misadventure
