Aging veterans gather to mark the anniversary and preserve memory of the D-Day landings. Community programs, ceremonies, and talks highlight the heroes, with local organizations coordinating events and inviting participation.
Republican Tim Sheehy and Democrat Jon Tester led Montana primary races as results poured in. Sheehy spoke at Gallatin Gateway of protecting children, borders, and a strong America, while Tester has served in the Senate since 2007.
District Judge Robert Whelan sentenced 48-year-old Jay Dee Davisson of Butte to 40 years in Montana State Prison for raping a 15-year-old girl in August 2020. The judge ordered no parole eligibility for at least 20 years and transfer to Deer Lodge within 10 days after a three day trial in January 2023. The victim testified Davisson picked her and a 19-year-old friend up and facilitated the assault.
J P Gallagher and Bill Foley cleared primary hurdles in the county chief executive race and will meet in the November 5 general election. Gallagher led with 45 percent of 11 225 votes. Foley finished second with 25 percent. Rayelynn Brands had 22 percent and Cathy Moe Goodwin 8 percent.
Anaconda Democrat Sara Novak won 2404 votes or 64 percent to Jessica Weeks 1381 or 36 percent in a contested regional primary advancing to the November 5 election. Novak, 45, a director of special education, previously served in House District 77 from 2021 to 2023.
