Four Silver Bow incumbents fall in Montana primary

In Silver Bow County Frank Gersh Joe Lester Henry Mernin and Eddie Picard lost bids for renomination, while George McGrath unseated Lester and Johnson beat Gersh in the assessor and county commissioner races. turnout was about 70.6 percent of 22 446 registered voters on a snowy day.

Airman dies from Sheridan crash injuries

Air Force chief warrant officer Niles Allen Bowman 33 of Springfield Ohio died in Sheridan Emergency Hospital from injuries from a Montana 287 wreck Friday. His wife Joann and children Sandra Kay Sharon Ann and Patricia M remain in fair condition. Montana highway fatalities reach 76 this year. Services are planned in Sheridan and Springfield with funeral arrangements by Richards Memorial Funeral Home.

Unofficial Montana primary returns from Helena list results by district. Congressional races in West and East districts show incumbents Olsen and Battin unopposed, others with multiple candidates. Butte and Anaconda Craft Unions Vote to Strike

Eight Butte and 13 Anaconda craft unions voted to strike Monday night over stalled negotiations with Anaconda Co. George Blair said the unions will seek U S Mediation and Conciliation involvement. Seven related unions in Great Falls did not notify action.

Nixon Captures California Gubernatorial Nomination

Nixon led the California GOP primary from polls closing and held a 2-1 edge over Joseph C. Shell, with 6,255 of 31,212 precincts reporting. Brown secured the Democratic nomination as he defeated three minor challengers. Kuchel defeated two conservatives for the GOP nomination, setting up a rematch with Richards in November.

Incumbents Unseated In Anaconda Primary

Two Deer Lodge County officeholders were defeated in Tuesday's primary with a third facing heavy losses as precincts remained to be counted. Emmet T. Walsh was defeated by Robert Boyd for county attorney. A. A. Longfellow beat incumbent C. R. Fischer for coroner. Margaret Hamill Herbolich trailed Margaret Shields for county school superintendent by 105 votes.

Spacecraft To Be Displayed In Butte June 14

The Mercury 7 capsule, replica of Freedom 7 Liberty Bell 7 and Friendship 7, will be on view at the Civic Center in Butte from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 14. Troy Evans, Helena area manager of the Treasury's Savings Bonds Division, says the exhibit promotes the Freedom Bond drive. The capsule features retractable steps to inspect the cockpit, instrument panel, equipment, and escape tower.

Powell County Party Results Narrow State wide gains

Powell County totals show incumbent Sheriff Everett Burt winning renomination on the Democratic side with 489 votes to Tom Ryan's 121. Otis Beard leads Republicans with 299 while Lester Barton has 203 and David Collings 164 with two precincts left. Joe Brand leads Democratic nominee for state representative over Lawrence Ward and Walter Mannix leads county commissioner race.

Butte Rodeo and Fourth of July Planned in Mining City

Butte Vigilante Rodeo and Saddle Club and Butte Celebrations Inc announce six days of events June 28 to July 4 including a western parade June 28, a Krazy Daze jamboree, a Civic Center fight card, a free dance at Columbia Gardens, and a patriotic Independence Day parade. Vendors will host bargain sales June 29 and 30 on East Broadway. Local officials oversee planning.

Partly cloudy and warmer with scattered afternoon showers east of Divide. Highs near 56 low 34. Wednesday and Thursday partly to mostly cloudy with a few showers or thunder showers Thursday afternoon. West of Divide expect warmer conditions with highs 58 to 68 Wednesday and 62 to 72 Thursday.
