Baxter Charged in Shooting in Butte
Elmo V. Baxter, 30, charged with first degree assault in Butte district court for allegedly attempting to kill his wife Rose, 27. Mrs. Baxter was wounded twice, carried their children to safety, and received medical care after the 6:30 am shooting at 541 Nevada. Baxter arraigned before Judge Downey with plea set for Saturday. One Man Killed in Rail Mishap
A New York Central Interstate Express from New York to Chicago derailed in Huron Ohio when it struck a power driven hand car. Engineer Ken Williams aged 64 from Cleveland was killed and several others injured. The crash happened as the eastbound train passed through the Erie county town at about 78 miles per hour.

Butte Engineers Approve New Two Year Contract
Members of Butte Stationary Engineers union No. 83 voted 195 to 37 to accept a contract with Anaconda Copper Mining. The deal provides an 11 1/2 cent hourly raise, five paid holidays, effective April 1 for two years. Similar agreements by building and construction trades and metals trades unions in Butte Anaconda and Great Falls approved a two year contract with a 11 1/4 cent raise and five holidays.
