Bond proposal for second high school near Butte passes narrowly
In Montana, School District 1’s 7.975 million bond for a second high school south of Butte Country Club and remodeling of Butte High School appears to have passed after late ballots pushed the tally to 6,461 yes and 6,394 no with about 950 votes left to count. Absentee ballots favored the bond, unlike some machine votes at Butte High and Emerson. Turnout was about 57 percent of 22,126 registered voters.

Voters oust three county officials in Silver Bow County race
In Silver Bow County Tuesday voters deposed three incumbents Lucille Oleary Larry Stimatz and Ken Cunningham and elected new county commissioner sheriff and county attorney. George Hagel won the sheriff race with 7246 to 5388. John Gary Winston defeated Stimatz for county attorney 7582 to 4468. Kennedy leads for commissioner with 6686 votes while Oleary finished last in the six year race. Other results include Baucus winning western district race and various local offices with margins reported.

Philipsburg police chief leads in sheriff race with precinct counts
Philipsburg Police Chief Dale Parks held a small lead for the Democratic sheriff nomination as two of Granite County’s four precincts reported. Parks led George Stanich by 13 votes and Oliver Storer by 18 with half tallies in. Incumbent Sheriff Nick Munis faced Henry West for the Republican nod, but no Republican ballots had been counted. Francis Durfee won the Drummong T justice of the peace post 307 to 96, with all precincts reporting, while Forrest Stuebe was unopposed for Philipsburg Township justice.
