FBI foils $100 million ransom hijack over Dulles
A hijacker seized a TWA jet with 51 passengers demanding $100 million. After a six hour sky high drama the crew and hijacker were wounded in a on ground scuffle near Dulles International Airport. The gunman collected $100 750 in cash but the money was believed to be paper. The hijacker Arthur Barkley of Phoenix was overpowered and taken into custody by the FBI after the plane landed a second time. The pilot Captain Dale Hope was shot in the abdomen but his injury was not life threatening.

Canvass Keeps Narrow Leads in Two Nominating Races
An official canvass of Thursday primary returns reaffirmed the tight races for Democratic nominations in two contests. County Assessor hopeful George D. McGrath still held a 125 vote edge over Cozette Dwyer, while State Rep. Robert J. Harper led Bob F. Kelly by a substantial margin, Harper with a 53 vote cushion. A possible miscount in Precinct No. 6 could award Kelly an extra 10 votes, but he would still trail by 43 even if confirmed. No other local contests were close enough to alter the results.

Sheridan youth Keith Edsall drowned in Ruby River
The body of 17 year old Keith Edsall was recovered from the Ruby River at 1 30 PM Thursday after he and three classmates canoeing near Sheridan Dam went over the spillway. Edsall a son of Mr and Mrs Lowell Edsall of Sheridan attended Sheridan High School and his services are set for Saturday at 2 PM in the Sheridan High School gym with John Gerke officiating.
