Tragedy in Butte sewer-ditch collapse claims teen life
An 18 year old, Frank J. Platt, died after the sewer-ditch sides collapsed on 3405 East Lake Drive. Albert J. Lovshin and Gary Lovshin escaped. another unidentified worker was unharmed. Coroner Leo Jacobsen noted soft ground with high sand content and said the investigation would continue.

Congress seeks to curb military power and cut forces
A bipartisan group of nine senators and 36 House members urged Congress to reclaim control over the military and shrink its size. The 61 page report called for a one million man reduction, withdrawal from South Vietnam, an interim Saigon coalition government, and a moratorium on testing multiple warheads and missile defense deployments.
