Rivers Rising Slowly Across Montana Ahead Of More Rain

Five Montana rivers were forecast to rise but remain within banks with shallow flooding possible inland. Sun River at Simms was set to crest about one foot above Wednesday levels. Big Hole and Jefferson also showed minor rises. Gallatin and West Gallatin stayed near flood thresholds while Missouri at Toston rounded out the affected basins.

Mansfield urges Big Four summit if UN fails Middle East fix

Senate Democratic Leader Mike Mansfield said the United Nations Security Council should settle the Middle East crisis or the United States Britain France and the Soviet Union might convene a Big Four summit. Record clears Maj. Reno after Little Big Horn service

Maj. Marcus A. Reno, famed for the Little Big Horn battle, has his 1880 dishonorable discharge overturned to honorable. An Army Board cited harsh frontier conditions as unfit for creating “plaster saints” as it moves toward possible reburial in a national cemetery. Charles Reno, great grandnephew, pressed for correction and reburying in Montana’s National Cemetery where Custer fought.

Jets strike Haiphong fuel dumps as ground fighting rages

Regents to Open Bond Bids for Western Montana Dorm

Regents will open bids Monday at Havre on a 1,676,000 bond issue to repay interim financing for a new dormitory at Western Montana College in Dillon. The dormitory is nearly complete and part of the Montana University System.
