Fromberg area rancher Sam Smith about 65 drowned after falling into a 15 foot deep cistern in his yard while trying to rescue a sheep. His body was found Saturday by sheep shearers near Fromberg. He is survived by a daughter in Anchorage, Alaska. Funeral services were pending.

Anaconda M C Messner Dies During Golf Round
Martin C Messner 57 superintendent of the phosphate plant at Anaconda Reduction Works died suddenly while playing golf at the Anaconda Country Club Tuesday evening. He collapsed likely from a heart attack and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Born December 25 1897 in Houghton Michigan he served 18 months in France with the Army in World War I. He joined Anaconda in 1923 and held multiple posts including engineer in Poland and at Anaconda. He lived at 604 Hickory and was a veteran of World War I.

A 47 year old man opened fire in two Dayton banks killing three and wounding four before dying from self inflicted or police gunfire after being cornered in the Winters Bank.
