Brothers Die Weeks Apart in Ranch Country

Brothers Are Engineers in Fatal Wreck
In Harrisonburg Virginia on July 30 two engineer brothers on the Chesapeake Western railway collided head on on a curve killing Leon Sigafoose 44 and injuring Melvin Sigafoose 40 though he survived. Walton Sigafoose Melvin s son fired the freight train locomotive. The crash followed a motor car trouble halting the line since 1895 when Emory Sigafoose served as the first throttle.

Search for Hawaii Clipper continues two evenings after crash suspected
Seven planes took off at dawn in Wide Area 15 Manila to search for Pan American Hawaii Clipper. Army and Navy officials believe an all gasoline slick spotted on the ocean indicates the plane went down with 15 aboard, six passengers and nine crew, to its death. Army bombers from Tacloban and Nichols Field swept the area along the last reported course while Navy amphibians searched eastward within fuel range. A naval flotilla moved in formation near the Meigs rescue path, led by the tender Canopus under Commander A C Bennett.
