Washington July 30 President Hoover called Great Britain's acceptance of parity a forward step in disarmament talks in a letter to American Legion head Paul V. McNutt. He said McNutt was misinformed, urged negotiations for reduction, and warned that simple building parity would not solve global dangers. The note also noted sympathy for disarmament goals and continued American restraint.
The St Louis Robin completed a 420 hours 21 minutes 30 seconds flight ending at 7:37 p.m. central time after takeoff July 13. Pilots Dale Red Jackson and Forest Obie O Brine soared 174 hours longer than any prior aviators, surpassing Loren Mendell and Robert Reinhart who had held the previous mark.

If confirmed, this suggests congressional backing to develop U S manganese deposits to compete with foreign ore, with Senate action pending.
Plans for the annual Montana products dinner to be held in the fall, plus a November presentation of The Barber of Seville, were discussed at the Butte Rotana club meeting at Gamers. The dinner showcases only Montana raised foods, with last year drawing over 500 attendees and expectations for almost double that this year. The Barber of Seville production was definite to be brought to town in November.
G D Hendron was arrested in Butte after a five minute lecture on city traffic rules. He was booked on a charge of operating a car while intoxicated after he asked "Wash at" while turning from Broadway onto Main. Officer J L Sullivan said the driver gave the reply "Come on" when questioned.
Helena July 30. Governor Erickson appealed to those entering Montana forests to act with extreme care to avoid starting fires and to minimize fire hazards. Unfavorable weather worsens fire danger and complicates control. He noted a state ban on burning forest material May 1 to September 30 without forest official permission and warned of penalties. Berry pickers fishers farmers campers with permits should guard fires closely and extinguish them fully. Smokers fires are especially dangerous to public interest.
Newark July 31 Colonel Charles A Lindbergh landed at Newark airport after a flight from Columbus Ohio. His plane ground looped damaging a wheel and wing tip but neither he nor his wife were hurt. A tire burst caused a similar incident at Columbus the day before. The couple left for an unnamed destination by waiting car, after inspecting new transcontinental air service plans.
Missoula July 30 Reinforcements tonight were rushed to Swartz Creek where a forest fire had been believed under control earlier. The incident was reported as ongoing with fire crews bending resources to contain the blaze as the situation developed.
Frank Bocca, 33, a gang leader, was found shot to death in his car in the Sunset district. He was killed by multiple gunshots to the head and face with extensive body mutilation noted.
South Bend Indiana July 30 Under pretext of reaching for a second bottle of pop an armed bandit forced his way behind the counter of a small grocery tonight grabbed a package containing 1800 dollars in bills and fled with two companions in a waiting automobile.
Sun spots cause magnetic storms and brilliant auroral displays on Earth. Dr. Seth B. Nicholson reports a new spot 33,000 by 26,000 miles located 16 degrees south of the sun's equator, about one third as intense as the July 7, 1928 event, with electrons and Earth's magnetic field producing auroras and possible impacts on telegraphic and radio communication. Weather effects remain unproven.
Oral Gleason of Marengo sought relief from a 93 degree day by entering an ice cream freezing box where the interior hit 14 degrees below zero. The door locked behind him and he pounded on tin buckets for two hours before rescue as his clothing froze and his body grew blue. He is expected to recover.
F. Malley, a South Dakota tourist, faced municipal court yesterday after a complaint by his wife alleging drunken cruelty. He refused to promise abstinence from hard liquor, telling the judge I won't lie to you I don't know and I won't make any promises, and was fined 25 dollars before being sent to a cell.
Former French premier Raymond Poincare, who has just resigned, will have two operations in connection with his illness. Four physicians met at his home and arranged the private hospital procedures. The first operation will occur within two days, the second about three weeks later, with a four month recovery expectation.
