The Air Force, aiming for a 69 group force by 1953, ordered start on about 4 billion dollars worth of war planes and aircraft parts. About 200 firms are involved in letters of intent as funds await congressional approval. This readiness signals a larger rearmament push beyond current requests.

Frederick Stokes Decker a retired Butte food broker died Saturday in Covington Louisiana. Funeral services will be Sunday in Covington with burial in Metric Ridge cemetery New Orleans. Born December 26 1875 in New Orleans he lived in Montana 1912 to 1948 and later returned to Covington. He worked for Illinois Central and Southern Pacific railroads and served in the Spanish American War with New Orleans battalion.
Air Force tests two stage Wac Corporal rocket piggybacked on a German V2 at 2727 miles an hour then released for a faster Atlantic run. It was the second launch from the Air Force proving ground near Cocoa in a series of horizontal missile experiments.
Volunteer firemen from 11 suburbs near Butte nearly 500 strong, with visiting crews, gather at Columbia Gardens for the fourth annual training school. In Dedham Massachusetts Mrs John Deshiro 37 gave birth to her 16th child a girl. The brood includes eight boys and eight girls aged 21 to newborn. The oldest son John is a corporal in the Army Air Force. Mrs Deshiro, a tile worker, married at 15.
Lt Gen Walton H Walker of the Eighth Army, in Korea, warned the war has reached a critical stage but expressed confidence in ultimate victory. He said U S troops, though outnumbered, can hold until reinforcements arrive and stressed front-line morale remains strong despite heavy enemy losses. He ordered his two division commanders to hold lines or die and promised the enemy will pay dearly for each inch gained.
Bulging creeks and heavy rains caused floods in northern and eastern Oklahoma. Enid saw Boggy creek flood 12 feet and cause about 1 million dollars in damage. 17 year old Edward Lewis Vaughn drowned. About 150 residents were evacuated from 75 homes. Near Eufaula three people drowned after a car overturned into a water filled ditch.
